📋 Overview
Galle is a jewel on Sri Lanka's south coast. The UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort is the best-preserved European colonial fortress in Southeast Asia. This ancient East-West trading port features imposing Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions and boutique museums. Winding lanes lead to stylish cafes, designer boutiques and beautifully restored hotels owned by artists, writers and photographers.
Lonely Planet says: "Galle is a jewel. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic city is a delight to explore on foot, an endlessly exotic old trading port blessed with imposing Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions and museums."

- 08:00 Galle Fort Walls – Walk the 17th-century Dutch colonial ramparts (~1.5km). Indian Ocean on one side, red-roofed colonial buildings on the other. Best in early morning light.
- 09:30 Galle Fort Lighthouse – Iconic landmark built in 1938, 26.5m tall. Panoramic views of the walls and ocean. Most beautiful at sunset.
- 10:00 Dutch Reformed Church – Built 1755, with Dutch colonial tombstones and stained glass windows.
- 10:30 All Saints Church – Victorian Gothic church from 1871, impressive timber construction.

Afternoon: Museums & Lanes
- 14:00 National Museum of Galle – In a Dutch colonial warehouse. Historical artifacts, traditional masks, jewelry.
- 15:30 Maritime Museum – Galle's history as an East-West trading port.
- 16:30 Fort Lane Walk – Church Street, Lighthouse Street, Pedlar Street. Independent designer shops, antique stores, galleries. Try: Barefoot Gallery, Stick No Bills, Exotic Roots.

- 09:30 Japanese Peace Pagoda – White stupa on the hilltop overlooking the bay and Galle Fort. 15-min walk up.
- 10:30 Jungle Beach – Hidden beach 10 min walk from the pagoda. Fewer crowds.

Tip: The Colombo-to-Galle coastal railway is one of Sri Lanka's most scenic routes. Sit on the RIGHT side (from Colombo) for ocean views.
