Golog 3-Day Guide: Sacred Mountain Amnye Machen, the Heavenly Path to Nianbaoyuze
Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture — deep in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Amnye Machen (6,282m) is one of Tibetan Buddhism's four sacred mountains, the largest mountain at the Yellow River's source. Nianbaoyuze was once "God's Backyard" — 360 glacial lakes scattered among snow peaks (core area closed since 2018 for ecological protection, but outer areas visible). Lagya Monastery is the largest Gelug monastery on the upper Yellow River. Golog is the first prefecture the Yellow River flows through after its source at Bayan Har Mountains. True deep Tibet — few tourists, authentic Tibetan culture.
Day 1: Amnye Machen Sacred Mountain

One of Tibetan Buddhism's four sacred mountains (with Kailash, Kawagarbo, Kado Jowo), main peak Machen Kangri 6,282m, three 6,000m+ snow summits, year-round snow. Yellow River wraps around the mountain in a grand bend — "First Bend of the Yellow River."
Experiences: View snow peaks from observation point (3h drive from Dawu town, clear weather reveals three summits), kora pilgrimage circuit (120km, 4-5 days hiking or 1 day driving), sunrise "Golden Mountain" (first sunlight hitting snow peaks — spectacular), highland pastures with yak herds and black tents along the route. Note: altitude ~4,500m at viewpoint, altitude awareness essential. Weather unpredictable, July-August best.

Afternoon: Yellow River First Bend Viewpoint (Free) After originating at Bayan Har Mountains, the Yellow River meanders through Golog and makes a spectacular bend at Amnye Machen's foot. Viewpoint on Lajia-Dawu road — S-curve through vast meadows. Summer: wildflowers blooming along riverbank, yaks drinking.
