Overview
Jixi, a border city in southeast Heilongjiang, famous for Khanka Lake (Xingkai Lake) and the Ussuri River. Khanka Lake spans 4,380 km² — one of Asia's largest freshwater lakes, shared between China and Russia. Lonely Planet calls it "Northeast China's last serene lake escape." Day 1: Khanka Lake
Tickets: ¥40 | 2 hrs from Jixi city
Hundred-mile sandy beach, lake vast as a sea. Beidahuang Development Memorial Hall tells the 1950s pioneer story. Swimming, bird-watching (key East Asian migratory stop), signature whitefish feast.
Day 2: Hutou Fortress
Morning: Hutou Fortress Museum (free)
Asia's largest underground WWII military fortress — 20 km of tunnels. Walk through history.
Afternoon: Ussuri River Source
River cruise ~¥50, Russia visible across the water.
Day 3: Jixi City
Morning: Jixi Museum (free) + Daobei Ridge (free)
Coal mining history, Sushen ethnic culture. Ridge hike with city views.
