Shenyang, birthplace of the Qing Dynasty. Lonely Planet calls it "China's most historically textured northeastern city." Three days at the Mukden Palace (UNESCO), Marshal Zhang's Mansion, Korean BBQ alleys, and industrial heritage sites.

Day 1: Imperial City
Morning: Mukden Palace (¥60)
One of only two surviving imperial palace complexes in China. Built 1636 by Nurhaci and Hong Taiji — Manchu architecture meets Han palace style. 2–3 hours.
Afternoon: Marshal Zhang's Mansion (¥48)
Home of warlord Zhang Zuolin and Young Marshal Zhang Xueliang. Adjoining Zhao Yidi House (free).
Evening: Zhongjie Pedestrian Street
Shenyang's oldest commercial street. Laobian Dumplings (since 1829, ~¥40).
Day 2: Modern History
Morning: 9.18 Historical Museum (free)
Site of the 1931 Mukden Incident that triggered Japan's invasion of Manchuria.
Afternoon: Beiling Park / Zhao Mausoleum (¥50)
Tomb of Hong Taiji. Ancient pines, UNESCO heritage, lotus pond.
Evening: Xita Korean Food Street
Live grilled eel, Korean BBQ (¥70), cold noodles (¥20).
Day 3: Industrial Heritage
Morning: China Industrial Museum (free)
Shenyang as "Republic's Equipment Department" — vintage lathes, foundry halls.
Afternoon: Tiexi 1905 Creative Park
Old factory turned cultural zone — bookstores, livehouses, art.
