Longxing Temple (¥50) — Lonely Planet: "almost 1500 years old – we think this is one of the most impressive temples in northern China. It's certainly Zhengding's star attraction":
LP describes in detail:
- Manichaean Hall: "an astonishingly voluminous hall flagged in smoothed stone, with amazing carpentry overhead"
- Reverse-seated Guanyin: "a distinctly male statue of the goddess Guanyin, seated in a lithe pose with one foot resting on her/his thigh (lalitásana), surrounded by disciples"
- Revolving Library Pavilion: "a highly unusual revolving, octagonal, wooden bookcase for the storing of sutras"
- Pavilion of Great Benevolence: LP calls this "Longxing Temple's real drawcard" — a 21.3m bronze colossus of Guanyin cast in AD 971, "sporting a third eye," on a magnificently carved Northern Song base with "myriad characters and musicians, including Buddhist angels (apsaras)"
- Hall of Vairocana: "the entire statue and its base contain 1072 statues of Buddha in all"
- Allow 2-3 hours
