Baotou, the largest industrial city in Inner Mongolia — "Steel City of the Grasslands." Beyond industry lies Xilamuren Grassland for horseback riding and yurt stays, Wudangzhao — the "Little Potala" — one of Tibet's most important monasteries outside Tibet, and the mighty Yellow River. Three days of grassland, Buddhism, and Mongolian culture.
🚶 Day 1: Xilamuren Grassland
Full Day (2hrs drive from Baotou): Vast grasslands stretching to the horizon. Horse riding (¥50-100), archery, yurt experience. Roast whole lamb at bonfire (¥200-400, group). Sunset over the steppe is unforgettable. Stay overnight in a yurt (¥80-150).
Food: Roast lamb (¥30-50/person), milk tea (¥5-10), milk skin (¥5-8), hand-grabbed mutton (¥30-50)
🚶 Day 2: Wudangzhao Monastery (¥60)
Full Day: "Little Potala Palace" — one of the three largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Inner Mongolia. White buildings cascading up the mountain, incredibly photogenic. Ancient murals, thangkas, and Buddhist scriptures. 1.5hrs from Baotou.
Afternoon: Return to Baotou. Visit North Weapons City (¥15) — Baotou's industrial heritage museum.
🚶 Day 3: Nanhaizi Wetland Park + Yellow River
Morning: Nanhaizi Wetland Park (¥20) — Urban wetland with bird watching and boardwalks.
Afternoon: Yellow River Scenic Area — The mighty river winds through Baotou. Riverside walk and sunset views.
Evening: Return via high-speed rail — Hohhot 1 hour, Beijing 3.5 hours.
