Ella 3-Day Guide: Sri Lanka's Mountain Village, Nine Arches Bridge and Tea Train
Ella — mountain town in Sri Lanka's Uva Province, ~1,000m altitude, cool climate. Sri Lanka's most popular backpacker destination — Nine Arches Bridge is the iconic sight: colonial-era stone arch bridge with trains crossing. Little Adam's Peak is the best sunrise viewpoint. Ella Rock challenges hikers. The train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella rated by National Geographic as one of "World's Most Beautiful Train Journeys." Three days of tea-scented mountain tranquility.
Day 1: Little Adam's Peak + Nine Arches Bridge
Morning: Little Adam's Peak (Free) Most popular hike — 1,141m, 45min walk from town center. 360° views — green tea valleys, layered mountains. Sunrise sea of clouds spectacular (depart 5:30). Two peaks — second has better views.
Afternoon: Nine Arches Bridge (Free) Sri Lanka's most iconic sight — built 1921, entirely stone and cement (no steel), 9 arches spanning 93m across a valley surrounded by tropical jungle.
