Day 1: Huzhu Tu Folk Culture Park
Full Day: Huzhu Tu Folk Culture Park (¥60)
China's only Tu ethnic 5A scenic area — Tu people (population ~290,000) known for seven-color floral sleeves (red, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white strips).
Experiences: Tu wedding performance (daily shows with "crying bride," "scolding matchmaker" customs), wheel-swing (large wooden wheel with four swings — performers strike graceful poses while spinning), Anzhao dance (traditional circle dance), Tu compound homes (courtyards with prayer-flag poles), Tu distilled barley wine (600 years history, tour the brewery). 40min from Xining. 4-5 hours.
Lunch: "Dog-spray cake" (thin pan-fried bread, delicious despite the name, ¥3-5), buckwheat dough balls in sour soup (¥8-12), Xuanma cake (¥3-5).
Day 2: Xunhua Salar Autonomous County
Full Day: Xunhua (~2h drive) China's only Salar settlement — ancestors migrated from Central Asia's Samarkand region in the 13th century, 700+ years. Muslim culture.
Morning: Jiezi Grand Mosque (Free) Salar spiritual center — founded Ming Dynasty, famous in Northwest China. Preserves handwritten Quran (brought by ancestors from Central Asia 800+ years ago). Architecture blends Chinese classical and Arabic styles.
Afternoon: Mengda Heavenly Lake (¥70) "Xishuangbanna of the Plateau" — emerald lake at 2,500m surrounded by primeval forest with subtropical plants (extremely rare on the plateau). Hike up ~1 hour (or cable car ¥30). Century-old trees, waterfalls, streams.
Food: Salar hand-grabbed mutton (incredibly tender, ¥40-60/jin), youxiang fried bread (¥2-3), fazi noodles (¥5-8), Xunhua thread peppers (famous nationwide).
Day 3: Beishan National Forest Park → Departure
Full Day: Beishan National Forest Park (¥60, northern Huzhu) "Green Gem of the Plateau" — Qinghai's largest natural forest. Red Stone Gorge, Water Mill Valley (waterfall group), Hundred Waterfall Valley. Summer cool (avg 15°C), autumn foliage spectacular.
Highlights: Langshidang Valley (core scenic area — deep gorges, waterfalls, dense forest), Holy Mother Spring (natural mineral spring), Yuanfu Daban (4,200m viewpoint). 2h from Huzhu town. 5-6 hours.
Departure: Haidong Ping'an District only 30min from Xining. Xining Caojiapu Airport is within Haidong.
