Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture — home to UNESCO World Heritage Hani Rice Terraces. Yuanyang terraces are Earth's most spectacular agricultural landscape, 16,000 hectares spiraling from valley to mountaintop. Jianshui Ancient City is "Little Yunnan" with national treasure purple pottery. Mengzi is the birthplace of crossing-the-bridge rice noodles.
Day 1: Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces (100 RMB, full day, UNESCO World Heritage)
Inscribed 2013 — China's 45th World Heritage site. 1,300+ years of Hani people carving terraces from 700m to 2,000m elevation on Ailao Mountain.
Key viewpoints: Duoyishu (best sunrise — terraces mirror the dawn clouds), Laohuzui (best sunset — largest scale, golden light), Qingkou Village (Hani mushroom houses), Bada (richest terrace layers). 3h from Mengzi. Stay overnight at terrace-side guesthouse (80-200 RMB) for both sunrise and sunset.
Day 2: Jianshui Ancient City (partial tickets)
1,200 years of history, Yunnan's best-preserved ancient city. Zhu Family Garden (50 RMB, Qing Dynasty mansion complex), Confucius Temple (40 RMB, China's 2nd largest), Chaoyang Tower (predates Tiananmen by 28 years), Twin Dragon Bridge (17-arch bridge, best at sunset), Jianshui Mini Train (100 RMB, narrow-gauge railway through countryside).
Jianshui Purple Pottery — one of China's four famous ceramics. Try pottery making (50-80 RMB). Food: charcoal-grilled tofu dipped in sauce (0.5-1 RMB/piece), steam-pot chicken (40-60 RMB), Caoya water vegetable (10-15 RMB).
Day 3: Mengzi — Birthplace of Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles → Departure
Authentic Mengzi crossing-the-bridge noodles: boiling chicken broth bowl + 10+ ingredient plates (meat slices, quail egg, chrysanthemum petals, tofu skin, chives) + rice noodles. You add ingredients yourself. Huoshaofangzi (15-30 RMB), Wangji Chrysanthemum (15-25 RMB).
Nanhu Park (free) — city center lake with French colonial architecture (former French consulate). Departure: Mengzi Airport or Mile HSR station, Kunming 2h. Budget: 600-1200 economy, 1500-2500 comfortable.
