Jiangmen 3-Day Guide: China's Overseas Capital, "Let the Bullets Fly" Location
Jiangmen — home to Kaiping Diaolou (UNESCO World Heritage), filming location for Jiang Wen's "Let the Bullets Fly," 600-year Chikan arcade town, Ba Jin's Bird's Paradise, and world-famous Xinhui tangerine peel. Guangdong's most storied city.
🚶 Day 1: Kaiping Diaolou (UNESCO World Heritage)
Full Day: Diaolou Towers
- Kaiping Diaolou (¥80): UNESCO World Heritage since 2007. 1,833 multi-story towers blending Chinese and Western architecture — Greek columns, Roman arches, Islamic domes. Built as both homes and fortifications during turbulent times
- Zili Village (¥60): Best-preserved cluster, primary filming location for "Let the Bullets Fly." Mingshi Tower rooftop offers panoramic rice-paddy-and-tower views
- Majianglong (¥50): Bamboo-surrounded diaolou village — incredibly photogenic
- Jinjiangli (included): Three tallest towers including Ruishi Tower (9 floors, Kaiping's tallest)
Dinner: Eel Rice ¥35, Tofu Corner ¥5, Magang Goose ¥48
🚶 Day 2: Chikan Ancient Town + Bird's Paradise
Morning: Chikan Ancient Town
- Chikan (free): 600-year arcade town along Tan River. European-style streets + old Chinese shop houses. Two century-old libraries (Guan and Situ) face each other across the river — testimony to historic clan rivalry
Afternoon: Bird's Paradise
- Bird's Paradise (¥50): The banyan tree that inspired Ba Jin's 1933 essay. A single 400-year-old tree covering 10,000+ sqm, home to tens of thousands of egrets. Boat tour included. Dawn and dusk are peak bird activity
🚶 Day 3: Xinhui Chenpi Village + Guifeng Mountain
Morning: Xinhui Chenpi (Tangerine Peel)
- Xinhui Chenpi Village: Xinhui tangerine peel is China's geographical indication product. "One liang of Chenpi = one liang of gold." Authentic aged peel ¥50-500/liang (older = more valuable, 10+ years for medicinal use)
