Founded during the Western Zhou Dynasty over 2,800 years ago, Pingyao is China's best-preserved Ming-Qing county town, inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1997. Shaped like a southward-moving turtle, it's nicknamed "Turtle City."

The most famous Jin merchant courtyard, known nationwide through the TV drama. Built during Emperor Qianlong's reign, covering 8,724 sqm with 313 rooms. Brick, wood, and stone carvings are considered three masterworks.

Afternoon: Wang Family Courtyard (¥55, Lingshi County)

Hailed as "China's No.1 Folk Residence," it's 4 times the size of Qiao's at 250,000 sqm. Built into the mountainside, it resembles a city from above. Carvings reach the pinnacle of craftsmanship.

About 1 hour drive between the two. Chartering a car is recommended.

🚶 Day 3: Mianshan Mountain or Shuanglin + Zhenguo Temples

Option A: Mianshan Scenic Area (¥110, Jiexiu)

Birthplace of the Cold Food Festival. The story of Jie Zitui's sacrifice originated here. At 2,560m, it combines mountain scenery with Buddhist and Taoist temples.
