Lincang 3-Day Guide: World Wa Homeland, Dianhong Birthplace & Last Primitive Tribe

Lincang, named for bordering the Lancang (Mekong) River, is China's largest Wa ethnic region — "World Wa Homeland." Wengding Wa Village is called "China's Last Primitive Tribe" with thatch-roof houses, bull-skull totems, and wooden drum dances. Also the birthplace of Dianhong (Yunnan black tea) — created in Fengqing in 1939. Cangyuan cliff paintings are 3,000 years old. Lincang is one of Yunnan's last undeveloped areas, preserving the most pristine nature and culture.

🚶 Day 1: City → Dianhong Museum → Wanyao Pottery Village

Morning: Dianhong Tea Museum — Dianhong created 1939 in Fengqing, shipped via Tea Horse Road during WWII. Free; tea tasting ¥20-50.

Midday: Pea flour cakes (¥5-10), Wa chicken porridge (¥10-15), Blang grilled fish in banana leaf (¥15-25).

Afternoon: Wanyao Pottery Village — 600 years of traditional pottery. Try wheel-throwing (¥30-50). Free.

🚶 Day 2: Wengding Wa Village (Full Day)

"China's Last Primitive Tribe" — thatch houses, bull-skull totem poles, wooden drums.

Tickets ¥50. 3 hours from Lincang (mountain roads). Stay overnight in Wa homestay (¥50-150).

🚶 Day 3: Fengqing Tea Mountain → Lushi Ancient Town → Departure

Morning: Birthplace of Dianhong. 3,200-year-old "Jinxiu Tea Ancestor" — world's oldest cultivated tea tree. Tea picking experience (¥50-80). Free.

Midday: Lushi Ancient Town — 1,000-year-old Tea Horse Road stop, Ming-Qing architecture. Free.

Afternoon: Fly from Lincang Boshang Airport to Kunming.
