Tacheng 3-Day Guide: Border Town Charm, Red Building Century & Accordion City
Tacheng, a small China-Kazakhstan border city in Xinjiang's northwest corner, perhaps the most "exotic" place in all of Xinjiang. Over a dozen ethnic groups live here — Han, Kazakh, Uyghur, Russian, Daur — creating a unique multicultural atmosphere. Called "Accordion City" — melodies drift from streets and alleys; Red Building Museum is a century-old Russian-style landmark; Bakhtu Port connects China to Kazakhstan; Tacheng air-dried meat and bread are famous province-wide. A border town perfect for slow strolling and savoring.
