Xinxiang 3-Day Guide: Soul of Taihang Mountains, Guoliang Cliff Road
Xinxiang, gateway to South Taihang, hides China's most spectacular road — the Guoliang Cliff Road hand-carved by 13 villagers over 5 years (1972-1977). The 1250m tunnel through a 120m cliff has 35 "windows" with sheer drops. Called the "Ninth Wonder of the World." Also home to Baligou waterfalls (180m drop), Baoquan emerald pools, Bigan Temple (China's first loyal minister temple), and the Ming Dynasty Lu King's Tomb.
Day 1: Wannxianshan / Guoliang Cliff Road (120 RMB)
Walk through the 1250m cliff tunnel, explore Guoliang Village at 1200m elevation, visit Shout Spring and Heavenly Ladder. 2 hours from Xinxiang. Farmhouse lunch: Taihang mountain chicken 60-80 RMB.
Day 2: Baligou (80 RMB) + Baoquan (100 RMB)
Baligou: Tianhe Waterfall (180m, Henan's highest), Red Stone River, Jade Emperor Palace cave. 3-4 hours walking. Baoquan: Emerald Pool, Jianlong Waterfall (100m+), glass deck suspended 200m up. Most beautiful in autumn with red leaves. Dinner: Huojia Heluo Noodles 15-25 RMB, Yanjin Huoshao 5-10 RMB, Niu Zhongxi Shaobing 3-5 RMB.
Day 3: Bigan Temple (40 RMB) + Lu King's Tomb (50 RMB)
Bigan Temple: China's first loyal minister temple from Northern Wei, with Confucius' sword-carved stele. Lu King's Tomb: best-preserved Ming prince tomb in Henan, stone honor guard larger than Beijing's Ming Tombs. Underground palace open for visits. Old city food: Yuanyang Huimian 15-25 RMB, Fengqiu Juanjian 20-30 RMB. Museum free. High-speed rail to Beijing 2.5h, Zhengzhou 30min.
